It’s September 8, so today is International Literacy Day! This year’s International Literacy theme is Peace, and the focus is on the link between literacy and peace. UNESCO is the organization behind International Literacy Day, and it’s holding a ceremony and conference in recognition of the cause.
“Here at NYPL, every day is Literacy Day!” said one of the Library’s bloggers last year. (Hello, Jenny!) And she’s right! Her blog post provides several links for many of our literacy programs, including those at our Centers for Reading and Writing and our ESOL classes. Literacy starts at birth and continues through adulthood. It is for EVERYBODY. Happy International Literacy Day!
